Overspeed entered twice due to instrument malfunction. Neither the air speed indicator or the primary flight display worked for most of the flight. I attempted to decend into LAX using the ground speed indicated on the GPS, but had to go missed approach due to high speed. Once I dropped below 5000 feet, both the air speed indicator and PFD began working again and I was able to land under control.
