AVSIM (requires you to have a signin account - free) has a download link for a tool that will pause your FSX flight the number of miles in flight you specify.

It also has the option to play an alert when the condition is satisfied.

PS: for our EasternHops pilots that use are EasternHops Virtual Airline "E-Tracker" App this function all ready exists  "pause at top of decent"
